 Our Lodge History

"Man was formed for Society and is neither capable of living alone, nor has the courage to do it "- Sir William Blackstone (1723-1780). That is the guiding force of WB Oscar Rodriguez and WB Rogelio Talastas when they planned to form a Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons under Masonic District No. 9 and initiate the necessary steps to bring the realization of the plan.

As an initial step, WB Gerardo B. Francisco and WB Antonio R. Garcia began to enlist the signatories to the Petition for Dispensation and those who signified their intentions were the Charter members Oscar Rodriguez, Romeo L. Sarenas, Rogelio G. Flores, Gerardo B. Francisco, Fernando V. Pascua Jr., Safiro A. Vinarao, Mario Yu, Peter T. Aragon, Eusebio Abella Jr., Ulrico Baladad, Agapito Francisco, Jose D. Hinlo, Jose A. Tanseco, Genero I. Arribe, Pedro R. Falcon, De Jesus A. Santiano, Jose Guillermo, Lamberto A. Aguilar, Pedro Subido, Anacio Bayan, Teofilo C. Leonidas, and Ildefonso Serrano Jr. The first organizational meeting, presided by VW Emilio Anrion Jr. was held on November 3, 1985 at Little Quiapo. During this meeting, the brethren proposed to call the Lodge 'GOMBURZA'. From among the Charter Members, the officers of the new lodge were appointed;

Oscar L. Rodriguez - Worshipful Master
Romeo L. Sarenas - Senior Warden
Rogelio G. Flores - Senior Warden
Rogelio S. Talastas PM - Treasurer

The second organizational meeting was held on November 17, 1985, at the Little Quiapo, Matalino St., Quezon City. It was the recommendation by Gerardo B. Francisco during the Second Meeting that GOMBURZA, originally voted last November 3, 1985, shall be changed to MANDALUYONG LODGE - the fourteen (14) brethren present during this meeting, presided by appointed Worshipful Master Oscar L. Rodriguez agreed to the suggestion since Mandaluyong is within District No. 9; and four (4) cities and thirteen (13) municipalities of said District, Mandaluyong was the one that had no Lodge yet.

VW Fernando V. Pascua Jr. was requested by the committee to prepare the by-laws and articles of incorporation of Mandaluyong Lodge; the letter to be sent to WB Benjamin Formoso the officers elect of Mandaluyong Lodge which will be submitted by WB Gerardo B. Francisco to the Grand Lodge.

The next organizational meeting was held on December 21, 1985 at the Capitol Masonic Temple, Quezon City. It was during this time that the brethren rehearsed the opening and closing of the Lodge for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree of Masonry, with VW Fernando B. Pascua as instructor.

The first stated meeting Under Dispensation was held on January 18, 1986 at the Capitol Masonic Temple, Quezon City VW Fernando V. Pascua Jr. informed the brethren that the Dispensation to form a new Lodge was duly approved and the xerox copies of such together with the payments made, were distributed to the brethren. The Dispensation was then placed in liue of the Charter.

WB Rogelio Talastas was requested to put in writing all the things that was done for Mandaluyong Lodge and since the Dispensation was duly approved, WB Ramon G. Nunez enjoined the brethren to give their full financial support since the Lodge was still in its infancy. It was also suggested that the brethren who are members of other Lodges with stated meetings in conflict with the stated meeting of Mandaluyong Lodge, should be changed and appointed to lesser positions with lesser responsibilities.

It was also during the month that WB Rogelio Talastas arranged with Capitol Masonic Corporation that the vacant room located inside the Masonic Temple, be occupied by Mandaluyong Lodge with the provision that this shall be fixed into a regular Lodge room. The Chairman of the Capitol Masonic Corporation agreed and total expenses for the conversion of said room was again shouldered by WB Rogelio Talastas.

Mandaluyong Lodge, although still Under Dispensation at that time, has already tangible projects -- that is, the improvement of the vacant lot in front of Capitol Masonic Temple, thereby converting it into a playground and parking space.

The brethren were also informed by WB Rogelio Talastas that because of the renovations imitated by Mandaluyong Lodge, they will not pay rentals to Capitol Masonic Corporation for five (5) consecutive years.

It was the month of April 1986 that the Mandaluyong pledged to help the Grand Lodge Installation of MW Reynold S. Fajardo -- WB Rogelio Talastas promised to prepare the vacant lot for the Grand Installation of MW Reynold S. Fajardo and in addition, he pledged to make a big stage for the officers of the Grand Lodge for this particular occasion.

The enthusiam and concern of WB Rogelio Talastas was very obvious, for his pledges did not end here, he also brought assorted food and drinks for the Grand Lodge Installation.

The forth coming Constitution of the Lodge and Installation of the newly elected officers was officiated by the big guns of the Grand Lodge, some of whom are also Charter members of Mandaluyong Lodge. MW Reynaldo S. Fajardo constituted Mandaluyong Lodge with the assistance of all elected and appointed Grand Lodge Officers. The Officers of Mandaluyong Lodge have chosen RW Teodorico V. Baldonado as the Installing Master and was assisted by Senior Grand Lecturer VW Fernando V. Pascua Jr. as Master of Ceremonies.

And so on June 7, 1986 at 9:00 am Saturday, the Consitution and the First Public Installation of Officers of Mandaluyong Lodge No. 277 F & A M under Masonic Disctrict No. 9 was held at the Capitol Masonic Temple, Quezon City with an address by MW Reynold S. Fajardo PGM and sumptuous lunch served thereafter.
